Spend a family half day on the rails of the heritage East Somerset Railway discovering the history of steam trains' heyday, and enjoy unlimited travel through some picturesque South West countryside with this Family Steam Train Trip with the East Somerset Railway. Since 1973 the East Somerset Railway has been transporting steam train fans up and down the track pulled by a lovingly restored steam locomotive, allowing steam lovers young and old to experience what rail travel was like 50 years ago. From Cranmore station with its museum and 100 year old signal box to Mendip Vale and the sight of trains 'running around', there are four stations and 2.5 miles of history to dive into on the historic East Somerset Railway, and you can experience it as your ticket allows unlimited travel. There are areas to picnic at Cranmore station which is also home to the Whistlestop caf', so there are plenty of options for you to dine when lunchtime rolls around. You can visit the engine shed and look into the workshops to see first hand the restoration work going on or you can simply kick back on your seats and just enjoy a day of back-and-forth steam train travel. The choice is yours!
